The Domžale Library was officially given the status as the municipal library of Domžale in 1960, although the beginnings of librarianship in Domžale can be dated back to 1904. Today the library is one of the most important information and cultural centres in Domžale, with branch libraries in Mengeš, Moravče, Šentvid, and Trzin, and a mobile library service.

The library maintains a local studies department with literature and other material on the region. It also houses a reading room, a computer room, and a big hall used for all kinds of cultural events such as book club meetings, talks on authors and their works, story-telling hours, philosophy lectures, exhibitions, workshops, puppet shows, and many other events are held.

Materials are made easily accessible for individuals with special needs by way of electronic magnifying lenses, audio books, and a device for optimal sound reception intended for hearing-disabled people. A lifelong learning point is located in the library as well. In cooperation with UNICEF, a safe point for children has been set up in the library premises, where children in distress can find support or shelter.
