Awarded by the Central European Initiative (CEI), a platform for regional cooperation, and the [[Slovene Writers’ Association]], the [[CEI Fellowship for Writers in Residence|CEI Fellowship]] is aimed at fostering international cooperation and stimulating young authors from the 17 CEI member states.

An award of 5,000 EUR enables recipients to partake in a three-month residence in any CEI member state of the candidate's choice. Applicants should be young authors up to 35 years of age from non-EU CEI countries (Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, and Ukraine). 

The call for applications is published on the CEI and [[Slovene Writers’ Association]] websites (deadline in April). The winner of the fellowship is selected by an international jury and invited as a special guest to the [[Vilenica International Writers’ Gathering|Vilenica International Literary Festival]] taking place in Slovenia in September. The fellowship is awarded at the opening ceremony of the festival. After completing the residency, the candidate is to submit a written report about his or her literary project.
