RTV Slovenia's TV Production Unit comprises three departments: TV Maintenance, Development and Editing (TVRM), System Development (SR), and Technical Programme Production (TPP). The unit has around 400 workers (5 to 10 per cent of which are honorary) who deal with projects relating to video, audio, lighting and programme broadcasting, mobile units (RA), magnetoscopic and tele-cinema broadcasting, editing, the photo film laboratory, graphics, cameramen and recording staff, and system development.

Television production overview

The TV Production Unit is responsible for the three national channels TV Slovenia 1, TV Slovenia 2, and TV Slovenia 3 and the two regional television channels TV Koper-Capodistria and TV Maribor. Its overall output, which includes national programmes, regional programmes, local programmes for the Italian and Hungarian minority communities and special programmes for foreign audiences amounts to approximately 18,400 minutes of television programming each year. The overall share of TV Slovenia 1, 2 and 3 exceeds those of individual commercial competitors.

Characteristics of national television broadcast

According to the RTV Law passed in November 2005, Television Slovenia is required to broadcast high-quality, informative, cultural, educational, and entertaining programmes. TV Slovenia 1 is the main informative programme which also airs TV film premières, important reports, panel discussions, and documentaries, whereas TV Slovenia 2 broadcasts mostly entertainment and educational programmes (TV series, quizzes, youth programmes) as well as afternoon repeats of popular evening programmes. The third channel TV Slovenia 3 is a parliamentary programme designed to broadcast live sessions of the Slovene Parliament.

Awards

A documentary produced by Radio-Television Slovenia (RTV Slovenia) Solinarke (Salt Harvesters), used the documents of the Sargej Mašera Maritime Museum as well as Koper Regional Museum to outline the story about the women who were working at the salt panes in Piran. The short film was awarded the Making a Story from Archives Category Best Feature Award in 2019, bestowed by the COPEAM, the Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operator in Bucharest
