The [[Žalec Institute for Culture, Sport and Tourism|Žalec Cultural Institute]] was established in [[established::2001]] by the [[Municipality of Žalec]] and manages the [[Eco-Museum of Hop-Growing and Brewing Industry in Slovenia]] and Savin House, the refurbished former home of opera and ballet composer [[Friderik Širca]]-[[Risto Savin]] (1858&ndash;1948). It incorporates the composer's Memorial Room, the [[Dore Klemenčič-Maj]] Collection, and the [[Savinov likovni salon]], a receiving art gallery space. Žalec Cultural Institute also bestows the annual Fanny Haussmann Award for poetry.

==Friderik Širca-Risto Savin Collection==
The original [[Friderik Širca]]-[[Risto Savin]] Collection in a Renaissance-style building dating from 1696 was arranged by amateurs during the 1960s. In 1992 the collection was completely rearranged and an inventory was made. In the same year the furniture was completely restored, 1996 saw the installation of audio equipment, and on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the composer's death in 1998, manuscripts of all his preserved and published works (photocopies and microfilms) were purchased. The core of the collection consists of the composer's extensive legacy (182 exhibits), which makes possible a worthy presentation of his life and work, supported by photographs, two uniforms, and small everyday objects. The collection is now enriched with originals and microfilms of the composer's works and recorded fragments from his operas (''Maria Saal Dream'', ''Beautiful Vida'', ''Matija Gubec'', and ''The Last Guard''), ballet music (''The Little Doll'', ''Dance Legend''), ''lieder'' and compositions for orchestra and piano as well as for men's, women's, and children's choirs.

==Dore Klemenčič-Maj Gallery==
The gallery of local artist [[Dore Klemenčič-Maj]] (1911&ndash;1988) was opened in 1992 in three rooms of the same house. The collection presents only a minor part of Klemenčič's extensive painting opus; most of his works are held at [[National Museum of Contemporary History]] or in private ownership. His private correspondence and archives are kept by the [[Žalec Inter Municipal Central Library‎]].

==Fanny Haussmann Award==
Presented annually to a poet for an original poetry cycle of up to 200 verses, the Fanny Haussmann Award is named after the first female Slovenian poet (1818&ndash;1853), who mostly wrote patriotic and love poems and lived for a time in the Novo Celje Mansion after her father purchased it and moved the family there.
