In [[established::2014]] the reorganisation of the independent national regulatory agency for media took place. Today the [[Agency for Communication Networks and Services of the Republic of Slovenia]] (AKOS) regulates and supervises the electronic communications market, manages and supervises the radio frequency spectrum in the Republic of Slovenia, performs tasks in the field of radio and television broadcasting, as well as regulates and supervises the postal and railway service markets.

==The field of electronic communications and broadcasting==

The Agency’s role in the field of electronic communications is to provide conditions necessary for effective competition and to manage radio frequency and numbering spaces, thus providing equal conditions for operators in the electronic communications market. The aim of the Agency is to ensure advanced and affordable communication services which satisfy users’ needs.

In the field of broadcasting, the Agency manages the radio frequency spectrum and supervises program content in such a way as to ensure the plurality of broadcasting media and content.

It promotes the development and improvement of radio and television programs and enables the broadcasting of program contents and multimedia services through different platforms, so that they are available to the largest possible number of people on any device that supports their reception.

==International cooperation==

The agency (formerly called APEK, the Post and Electronic Communications Agency of the Republic of Slovenia) regularly participated in regional and international events concerning the digital switchover, such as the 2009 Conference on the Digital Switchover in London and a similar regional conference held in Priština (Kosovo). That same year representatives of the agency took part in a conference titled Protection of Children from Inappropriate Television Content in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina). In 2010 agency representatives attended a conference on media literacy that was held in London.
