The Centre for Karst Architecture (CKA) is dedicated to the research and dissemination of knowledge related to the quality development and preservation of the unique spatial, architectural and cultural heritage of the Karst. It is stationed in the picturesque medieval settlement of Štanjel, where the centre primarily maintains an archive and a small library that collect both new and old materials on the topic. It also takes care of the exhibition on the architect Maks Fabiani and the archive of the Maks Fabiani Foundation, which are based at Štanjel Castle.

Besides taking care of the archival and library collections, the centre has also set up and is developing a web resource on Karst architecture, where one can also find a manual on faithful restoration of Karst houses.

The exhibition Good-bye Vienna, Hello Stanjel was held in Štanjel and Ljubljana (Museum of Architecture and Design) in 2004–2005. Today set at the Štanjel Castle, Maks Fabiani Foundation.
