Founded in 1945 as the Academy of Acting Arts, the [[Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT)]] (renamed in 1963) has been running the [[Department of Dramaturgy, Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT)]] since its inception. Today the department is named [[Department of Dramaturgy and Performing Arts, Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT)|Department of Dramaturgy and Performing Arts]], and offers courses in theory, aesthetics and the history of drama, theatre and audio-visual media.

The theoretical courses and seminars are combined with training in practical dramaturgy, playwriting and screenwriting. The students participate in the regular semestral theatre and film/TV production within the Academy. 

Since 2008 the department publishes the [[Amfiteater Journal|Amfiteater Journal of Performing Arts Theory]] in collaboration with the [[Association of Theatre Critics and Researchers of Slovenia]].
