The [[Department of Educational Sciences, University of Ljubljana|Department of Educational Sciences]] at the [[University of Ljubljana]] is devoted to the critical study of the science and art of education and teaching in the fields of pedagogics and andragogy. Its predecessor, a seminar of pedagogy, was established in [[established::1919]] and gradually developed into the scientific discipline that it is today. It offers two single- and double-discipline graduate study programmes, two master's degree programmes and a doctoral study programme. == Background ==
In 1965 the Slovene [[Educational Research Institute (ERI)]] was founded in Ljubljana on the initiative of the department.

With the Bologna Process, graduate and postgraduate programmes have been reorganised to reflect the opportunities it creates: three-year BA, two-year MA, and three-year PhD programmes were fully implemented by 2010.

Since 1982 the department has organised the annual ''Days of Pedagogy and Andragogy'' [Pedagoško-andragoški dnevi, PAD] with the aim of presenting the latest in the discipline and engaging the audience in a critical and constructive dialogue.

== International cooperation and academic exchange ==

The department is active in international projects and has signed agreements with many foreign universities. In 2012 the department organised an international conference of the ESREA Network on Education and Learning of Older Adults (ELOA) on the subject ''Intergenerational solidarity and education of older adults in community''.

Student and academic staff exchange is made possible within the framework of the ERASMUS Programme. Students can pursue part of the studies in Bulgaria (St. Cyril and Method University), Estonia (Tallinn University), Finland (Oulu University of Applied Sciences, University of Helsinki, University of Tampere), France (University Louis Pasteur Strasbourg), Croatia (University of Zagreb), Lithuania (Kaunas University), Germany (University Osnabruck), Netherlands (Hanze University Groningen), Slovakia (University Komensky Bratislava), and Spain (University Las Palmas, De Vigo University).
