The [[Department of Geography, University of Ljubljana|Department of Geography]] at the [[University of Ljubljana]] has a long tradition. The department offers 2 study programmes, both pedagogic and non-pedagogic, as well as the option to combine geography with another subject to create a bi-disciplinary study programme. The PhD in Geography is offered as a part of the interdisciplinary doctoral programme, offered at the [[Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana|Faculty of Arts]] and the [[Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana|Faculty of Social Sciences]].

==Background==
The Department of Geography was established in [[established::1919]], the same year as Ljubljana's university. The 32 staff members, both pedagogic and non-pedagogic, deal with around 500 students, at a graduate and postgraduate study programme. In 2002 the department launched a research institute, focusing on environmental and regional-development studies.

The Department of Geography also houses the largest geographical [[Department of Geography Library, University of Ljubljana|library]], which is a part of the [[Faculty of Arts Central Humanities Library, University of Ljubljana|Faculty of Arts Central Humanities Library]].
  
==Publications==
There are several publications run by the department's staff and its collaborators. One is ''DELA'', a periodical aimed at scientific paper and materials. The other publication is ''GeograFF'' aimed at a more general public interested in geography. Articles from both publications are available in digital format at [[DLib.si - Digital Library of Slovenia]].

Besides the international agreements at the university level, the Department of Geography has a substantial number of partnerships all over Europe, namely, in Paris, Lille, Liege, Amsterdam, Aberdeen, Liverpool, Dublin, Munich, Würzburg, Münster, Seville, Bilbao, Lisbon, Beja, Freiburg, Prague, Brno, Olomouc, Krakow, Lublin, Riga, Trieste, Graz, etc.
