Archival article

The CUP Awards have been bestowed since 2007 at the Intercontinental Advertising CUP for the best work in each of the 38 categories arranged in three main groups: Best of Products & Services; Best of Media; and Best of Admaking. The Grand CUP Award is granted for the most outstanding work, the best of all CUP Awards. Since 2009 the additional prize Agency of the Year is awarded.

The mission of the CUP Awards is to affirm locally inspired creativity. The international jury, consisting of the prominent leaders of advertising industry, selects the awardees from the short-listed entries of the Golden Drum Advertising Festival of New Europe, ADFEST, FIAP, and ADC*E. The first Grand CUP Award in 2007 for the best of all entries was bestowed to BBDO Argentina for the work Pretty Neighbourhood. In 2008 the prestigious prize was given to agency JWT Spain for the campaign La Clave Reserva. The Grand CUP 2009 was awarded to GT Inc for the video Love Distance, the most awarded agency was Almap BBDO Brazil, which thus won the Genius Loci Cup.


The trophy

The trophy of the CUP Awards is a cup made of stainless steel with the engraved name of the winner and names of the jury members. The visual identity of the cup was designed by Matevž Medja, and the trophy by Miha Klinar, Gigodesign.


Awards

The judging process structure slightly differs from other festivals. All entries are grouped in 19 Best of Products & Services categories and at first judged regardless of their initial media appearance. In the second group, Best of Media, the jury selects the best work regardless of its product or service category. In the third group, Best of Admaking, craft skills are awarded. The best overall work is granted the Grand CUP.

The entries for the Best of Media Awards compete in the following categories: Film; Radio; Press; Outdoor; Interactive; One2One; Publications; Installation; and Media Innovation.

The Best of Admaking Awards are divided into the categories: Best Use of Local Culture; Best Universal Idea created in a Local Market; Best Integration of a Global Idea into a Local Culture; Best of Strategy; Most Insightful Idea; Best of Crafting (Award for Agency and Award for Production Community); Best Use of Technology; Best of Design; and Best Campaign.

The Grand CUP Award is bestowed for the best of all Cups.
