The heavy metal international music festival Metalcamp was held every July from 2004 up to 2012 when the last edition of Metalcamp, promoted by Rock the Nation, took place at Tolmin, in the beautiful surroundings of the Alps.

Metalcamp was one of the central metal events in this part of Europe and certainly had the most international character among music festivals in Slovenia. Every year it attracted a massive international audience of thousands of fans from Scandinavia, Germany, Austria, the Mediterranean countries and Slovenia. Every genre and sub-genre of metal with the addition of hardcore influenced styles was well represented in the 5-day gathering of bands performing on a couple of stages.

The festival site Sotočje is located on a peninsula between the turquoise mountain rivers Soča and Tolminka. In the past the programme has hosted as many as 40 acclaimed bands on the main Metal Stage and 44 young bands on the Talent Forum Stage.

The line-up of bands in past editions of the festival has included: Danzig, Apocalyptica, Hypocrisy, Noctiferia, Primal Fear, Slayer, Anthrax, Obituary, Soulfly, Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Motörhead, Cradle of Filth, Sepultura, Kreator, Immortal, Korpiklaani, Pain, The Exploited, Ministry, In Flames, Morbid Angels, Nightwish, Down.

The extended 2010 edition of Metalcamp featured Immortal, Cannibal Corpse, Over Kill, Behemoth and Sabaton.
