First presented in 2007, the Pia and Pino Mlakar Award is conferred by the expert committee of the Association of Ballet Artists of Slovenia for an individual's outstanding and original life time contribution to the art of ballet and choreography. The award is named after the late Slovene ballet dancers and choreographers Pia (1910–2000) and Pino Mlakar (1907–2006), the founders of professional ballet education in Slovenia.

So far the award has been bestowed to Mirko Šparemblek (2007) and Vlasto Dedovič (2010), two of the most visible Slovene ballet choreographers.
