Abstract

PreGlej focuses on Slovene contemporary playwriting, especially on emerging writers, its main goal being the establishment of an elementary infrastructure for playwriting in Slovenia. Drama writing is developed and then presented to producers, theatre directors and editors. The main activity of PreGlej is the bi-monthly presentation of staged readings. For each staged reading, five to six rehearsals are organised. During rehearsals, the playwright continues to develop the play in dialogue with actors and director. After three months each playwright has the opportunity to have another staged reading of the revised text. Staged readings are always followed by discussion with the audience. In 2005, PreGlej initiated the PreGlej Laboratory, which takes place twice a month. It is an ongoing and flexible play development workshop in which playwrights and directors meet and analyse plays with the goal of encouraging the production and improvement of texts. PreGlej also offers an important information service, the PreGlej.si Playwright's Resource website.

PreGlej is also involved in international collaboration and exchange. Within the framework of the PreGlej programme a residency by three Slovene playwrights was organised in New York. Their plays were premiered in English translation at the European Dream Festival in New York in Autumn 2006. In 2007 KD Integrali launched a new project, Let's integrate!, which is basically a production in development of a new Slovene play, while the project nEEd Circuit aimed to present the work of Eastern European playwrights in the United States and the UK. Another recent KD Integrali project is Myth as Destiny, a transnational partnership and interdisciplinary research project involving science, theory and the performing arts. PreGlej has collaborated with Mostarski teatar mladih Mostar (Mostar Youth Theatre, Bosnia and Herzegovina), Bazaart Beograd (Serbia), the International Company Project, New York and the Theatre Without Borders, New York.
