Abstract

The space had been left to decay for over 15 years until the TEMP group decided to take the initiative and act. Its change of the function from factory to cultural centre was achieved not through a classic occupation squat but in accordance with an original concept of a new production unit. The production of independent and non-profit cultural programmes started here in March 2006 when by accident Antonio Negri became one of its first guests and lecturers. Pending the development of a clear strategy by the municipal government to invest in and reconstruct the Rog facility, it is open to all those working in the non-profit sector. To date the project has involved the co-operation and participation of hundreds of individuals and numerous cultural and social organisations, including the African Centre, Noordung Cosmokinetic Cabinet, Kapelica Gallery, the ŠKUC Association, Ljudmila - Ljubljana Digital Media Lab and the SCCA-Ljubljana Centre for Contemporary Arts. Meetings of the Tovarna Rog assembly take place every Tuesday at 5pm, and cleaning is undertaken every Sunday at 11am.

In Summer 2007 the first Rogfest took place, featuring cultural events, workshops and panel discussions - including panels from the 2007 Mladi levi Festival. A calendar of events, links to participating organisations, multimedia documentation on the intiative and latest news on the project are available at its regularly-updated website.
