Computer science education at the [[University of Ljubljana]] goes back to 1973, with computer science becoming an independent study in 1982. To date, the [[Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana|Faculty of Computer and Information Science]] has produced some 3000 Bachelors and over 500 Masters and Doctors of Computer and Information Science. It offers a number of graduate and postgraduate study programmes.

== Background ==

The Faculty of Computer and Information Science was established in [[established::1996]] when the former Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was restructured into two new faculties. The roots of computer science at the [[University of Ljubljana]] date back to 1973 when Computer Science was first offered to third-year students. Since 1982 it has been organised as an independent graduate and post-graduate study.

In 2003 intermedia artists from the faculty initiated [[ArtNetLab]], the majority of whose projects have been developed in collaboration with the faculty's Computer Vision Laboratory and the [[Academy of Fine Arts and Design]].

== International cooperation ==
The faculty encourages student exchange between universities in Slovenia, specifically the faculties at the [[University of Ljubljana]], [[University of Primorska]], and [[University of Maribor]]. For students interested in pursuing part of their studies abroad, the faculty has agreements with a range of European academic institutions within the framework of the  ERASMUS/SOCRATES Programme.
