Originating in 1953 with Ljubljana's oldest festival, the [[Ljubljana Festival]], the [[Festival Ljubljana Public Institute]] was established in [[established::1954]] by the [[Municipality of Ljubljana]]. Apart from its continued central duty of organising the annual festival, the institute organises, or takes part in organising, numerous other projects that contribute to the cultural image of the capital. Other events within its remit include the event [[Slovene Music Days]], the Young Virtuosi music programme, the [[Križanke International Art Colony]], and the Festive December programme, in which short concerts are given by students of the Ljubljana music school.

The [[Križanke]] architectural complex, designed in 1952 especially for the [[Ljubljana Festival]] by renowned architect [[Jože Plečnik]], is managed by the institute.

==International networking and cooperation==

Festival Ljubljana is a member of both the [[European Festivals Association (EFA)]] and the International Society for the Performing Arts Foundation (ISPA).

Festival Ljubljana is a partner in the upcoming international cooperation project "#synergy: Sharpening the capacities of the classical music industry in the Western Balkans" supported by the Creative Europe programme in its 2020 special call for projects focusing on the Western Balkans. The project will join together partners from Albania, Croatia, Kosovo and Serbia, under the leadership of Don Branko Sbutega Foundation from Montenegro.
