The [[Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, Nova Gorica Regional Office|Nova Gorica Regional Office]] of the [[Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia]], founded in [[established::1961]], is responsible for cultural heritage in the Nova Gorica region, with cultural monuments declared of high importance by the state, among them the Rihenberg Castle, the Maks Fabiani Garden in Štanjel, the [[Idrija Mine Museum|Idrija Quicksilver Mine]], and the [[Franja Partisan Hospital]]. Archaeological research is also underway in several locations. The office has a branch in Štanjel and a restoration workshop and depots in Solkan.
