The Social Activities Department of Ljutomer Municipality is responsible for social and health care, education and sports, as well as for public culture and cultural heritage preservation. On behalf of the Municipality, the Ljutomer Public Library runs the runs the Ante Trstenjak Gallery and the Ljutomer Museum (the latter is partly funded by the state). The most prominent traditional cultural events are the so-called Prlekija song and dance festival which takes place in April, the Festival of Children and Youth Choirs in May and the Folk Singers and Instrumentalists Meeting in Mala Nedelja, also in May. The local branches of the Union of Cultural Societies of Slovenia (ZKDS) and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia (JSKD) facilitate the activities of local cultural organisations and act as mediators in respect of state and municipal funding.
