The Pivka House of Culture is a local cultural centre, set in the small town of Pivka. It was set up in 1998 as an open space for a wide range of activities including music, theatre, film, visual arts and multimedia. As of 2013, it runs a programme that primarily focuses on visual arts, though its premises also include a youth culture club and a graphic atelier.

The centre co-organises the Trnje Festival in partnership with Postojna Youth Centre. During the summer months the centre is open for various individual projects.

Events and exhibitions

The programme in the Pivka House of Culture tends to present, especially as of 2013, contemporary and unconventional artistic striving, more or less by Slovene visual artists. The gallery usually sets up about 8 exhibitions that are often coupled with various educational activities meant for schoolchildren. These have long been actively introduced to the centre's activities, often by way of workshops. The Pivka House of Culture also has a permanent collection of artworks, many of them available for buying.

Some of the artists who presented their illustration, new media, sculpture or painting installations in Pivka have been Petra Varl, Marko Gavez, Zoran Pungerčar, Evgen Čopi Gorišek, Mina Fina, Damijan Kracina, Ana Čigon, Matej Stupica, as well as the photographers Jaka Babnik and Tadej Vaukman.

Čuza

Among concert goers, Pivka House of Culture is most known for its basement area Čuza, which is divided into three rooms: a hallway with a bar, a merchandise and hang-out spot and a concert room. The latter is notable for its colourful walls, small size and lack of a stage, qualities which contribute to a cosy and egalitarian atmosphere among the performers and the audience. It is the traditional venue for the annual Club Marathon.

Zinko Tiček

Zinko Tiček is a smaller fanzine library, which grew from a personal fanzine, comic and graphic book collection by Leon Zuodar. Responsible for running the graphic atelier in the centre, he is also a part of the art tandem Beli sladoled. The library (meant also as a smaller exhibition space) is open to everyone interested in photocopy, risograph, silkscreen and other graphic printed mediums.
