The [[Prešeren Award Recipients Gallery Kranj]] is located in the 16th-century Pavšlar House in the old town centre. The premises, with their original frescoes, exposed wooden ceilings, clay brick floors, and illuminated arcades, host the permanent collection of the works by the Prešeren Award recipients, presented also individually on neatly conceived temporary exhibitions.

[[Prešeren Award and Prešeren Foundation Awards|Prešeren Awards]] are the highest national awards in the field of arts, granted by the national [[Prešeren Foundation]] and bestowed since 1947. They are named after Slovenia's greatest poet [[France Prešeren]] (1800&ndash;1849) who lived the last of his years in Kranj. The initiative for the Prešeren Award Recipients art collection dates back to the year [[established::2000]]. Today the collection venue is actually situated opposite the memorial [[Prešeren House]].

==Permanent collection==
The [[Prešeren Award and Prešeren Foundation Awards|Prešeren Award]] has played a significant role in the representation of the national culture. The unique collection of some 140 artworks by 80 recipients of this prominent award in the last six decades therefore reveals also a permanent bond between culture and politics. The artworks have been donated by the artists, purchased by the [[Municipality of Kranj]], or are on loan from the [[Gorenjska Museum, Kranj|Gorenjska Museum]].
