The first secondary school of this type was established in [[established::1958]] as Secondary Textile School, today the [[Secondary School for Design and Photography, Ljubljana]] is quite popular among young people in Maribor, in the North Eastern region of Slovenia. The school runs five educational programmes: hairdressing, media communications, fashion design, industrial design and graphic design. The School is housed in the new building. The school is attended by around 700 students.

The school cooperated with a German school for hairdressers and Maribor pupils visited Germany. They also joined METOD-Metatool project for educational design with [[Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Maribor]] and were regularly involved in the PISA project.
