[[Slovene Association of Cinematographers]] was founded in [[established::2001]] with an aim to inform and promote the importance and relevance of cinematography to the general public, film colleagues and the cultural-political environments.
The association is a member of the Imago &ndash; European Federation of Cinematographers that connects round 50 international societies worldwide.

In 2015, the Slovene Association of Cinematographers introduced an annual award for the best achievements in the cinematogrpahy, the [[Iris Award]]. Directors of photography compete in six categories, for their achievements in the past year.
