The Slovene Association of Landscape Architects was established in 1992 as an association of experts in the field of landscape architecture and spatial management. Its mission entails the promotion of the landscape architecture profession in Slovenia, the search for spatial solutions in cooperation with various public entities, and education on environmental protection issues.

The association works with other professions in solving spatial and environmental problems and conducts international networking. It is a member of the International Federation of Landscape Architects and the European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools (ECLAS), and actively cooperates with related associations, including the Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning of Slovenia (ZAPS). The association has played a significant role in the processes of adopting spatial, building, environmental, and other sectoral legislation.

Activities

Besides its publishing activities and successful participation in many competitions, the association organises lectures, exhibitions of the work of its members, and panel discussions.

Month of Landscape Architecture

The annual Month of Landscape Architecture event is held every year in April. It features lectures, guided tours, and children's workshops and seeks to inform interested groups and the general public on the environmental, social, and economic factors of spatial planning, landscape planning, and landscape design.

International cooperation

Together with the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Ljubljana, the Slovene Association of Landscape Architects has organised several conferences, including the conferences Landscape Planning in the Era of Globalisation in Portorož in 2002 and Public Open Space in Ljubljana in 2008.

The conference Green Infrastructure, New Challenges for Urban Landscape Planning was held in 2016, in conjunction with Ljubljana assuming the title of European Green Capital. The international conference took place at the Ljubljana Castle. One of the partners was the EU-funded project TURAS or "Transitioning towards Urban Resilience and Sustainability".
