The [[Slovene Study Library in Klagenfurt]] was established in [[established::1927]] as the Central Library of the Slovene Education Association. Today, it is the largest Austrian library with materials in Slovenian. Its collection consists of more than 130,000 book and non-book items and over 500 periodical titles. Since 1997, the library has been a member of [[COBISS - Slovene Virtual Library]] network. The institution has also been a member of the [[Reading Badge of Slovenia Association]] since 1977.

== Background ==

The roots of Slovene librarianship in Austrian Carinthia date back to the 1920s. In 1927 the Slovene Education Association in Klagenfurt (''Slovenska prosvetna zveza v Celovcu''), formerly known as the Slovene Christian Social Association, founded the first central library, which later became the Slovene Study Library. During World War II a large part of its collection was destroyed or confiscated. Gradually, the library was reconstructed, and its collection has been increasing in size ever since.
