Opened in [[Established::2000]] by [[Mladinska knjiga Publishing House]] in the Blue House (Modra hiša) next door to its flagship [[Mladinska knjiga Bookstores|Konzorcij bookstore]] in Ljubljana, the [[Sunflower Gallery]] specialises in the presentation of children's book illustrations. It presents artists working with and for the Mladinska knjiga Publishing House and those who are publishing their work in the children's magazines ''Cicido'' and ''Ciciban''.

The peak of gallery activities was in the years 2010&ndash;2012. Since 2013, the exhibitions have rarely taken place at the Sunflower Gallery, instead, some book illustration exhibitions have been organised by the MK team at other venues around town.

== Background ==
The [[Sunflower Gallery]] received its name from the children's book collection ''Sunflower'' (Sončnica) which the Mladinska knjiga Publishing House has been publishing for years. It operates under the logo of the happy sun created by the popular Slovene illustrator of children's books [[Lilijana Praprotnik Zupančič]] alias [[LiLaPraP Creative Laboratory|Lila Prap]].

==Programme==
The Sunflower Gallery regularly prepares mostly solo exhibitions in monthly intervals. As a rule, it features recent illustrations and in this way also promotes newly published books.

Since its establishing, the gallery has given the podium to almost all of Slovenia's prominent and promising illustrators, such as [[Jelka Reichman]], [[Božo Kos]], [[Marjan Manček]], [[Zvonko Čoh]], [[Maša Kozjek]], [[Suzi Bricelj]], [[Lila Prap]] and many many others. 

Occasionally, the gallery has also featured the results of different competitions prepared by magazines of the Mladinska knjiga Publishing House, either photo or drawing competitions.

==Exhibition space== 

The exhibition space is 45m² (15m W x 3m D x 2.9m H) large, incorporating 16-linear-metres of wall space.
