Established in 1949, Tine Rožanc Folkloric Dance Group comprises more than 120 dancers (aged from 4 to 75 years), two orchestras (one being a tamboura string orchestra that plays primarily the music of the Bela Krajina region and the neighbouring Croatian regions of Dalmatia and Slavonia), a children's dance group and a veterans' group.

Plesna izba Maribor (Maribor Dance Room) runs an extensive programme of dance and drumming education, yet simultaneously also stages various dance performances and explores contemporary performing arts in general.

Held biannually since 2003 the Gibanica (Moving Cake) Biennial of Slovenian Contemporary Dance Art has been a competitive contemporary dance festival aimed at offering an overview of the most outstanding Slovene dance performances of the preceding two years.

Front@ Contemporary Dance Festival takes place annually each end of August in Murska Sobota, a town in the eastern region of Slovenia known as Prekmurje.

The biggest and one of the oldest Slovene folklore groups, France Marolt Student Folk Dance Group was established in 1948 in Ljubljana by France Marolt, an ethnomusicologist at the Institute of Ethnomusicology.

Dance Studio Intakt, a studio for contemporary dance, was established in 1987 by Matjaž Farič, Jasna Knez, and Vesna Lavrač, among others.

The Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia (JSKD) is one of the most effective cultural networks which, through its central expert unit and 59 branch offices, enables reciprocal interactions between cultural societies, local communities, and state institutions.

Founded in 1994 as a non-governmental professional association, the Contemporary Dance Association Slovenia (CDAS) aims at an all-round development of the area of contemporary dance in Slovenia by providing service support to the non-governmental organisations in this field, establishing the necessary conditions for professional activities, networking, advocacy, as well as by establishing or (co-)organising different educational programmes.

Established in 1976 by one of the pioneers of Slovene dance theatre, the choreographer Damir Zlatar Frey, the Celje Dance Forum has since then run a quality dance education programme, especially intended for children and youth, as well as produced several acclaimed evening-length dance performances, which have been presented at home and abroad.

Since it opened fully in 1982, Cankarjev dom (CD) has presented a world-class Theatre and Dance Programme, providing a stage for contemporary theatre and dance from around the world, as well as Slovenian production of international standing.

The Študent Academic Folklore Dance Group was established in 1964 in Maribor.
