Founded in 2024 by ZRC SAZU, Bookshop-café Maks is the first academic bookshop in Nova Gorica. It offers a carefully curated selection of humanities and social science literature, including philosophy, sociology, history, archaeology, anthropology, art studies, ecology, political science, economics, and gender studies, among other fields. In addition to its specialist titles, the bookshop features a refined selection of quality fiction in Slovene, English, Italian, Croatian, and other languages. More than a bookshop, Maks also serves as a welcoming café and cultural hub – an inviting space for conversations, meetings, and events, from book launches and storytelling sessions to intimate concerts.
