The Embassy of the French Republic in Slovenia provides a range of consular services, disseminates information about France in Slovenia and looks for cooperation opportunities. Its tasks also include the promotion of French arts and culture. The French Government offers also various scholarships postgraduate study in fields which include humanistic and social sciences. The contact point for cultural cooperation is the French Cultural Institute Charles Nodier, which was established in Ljubljana as early as 1966. It runs several programmes and manages a library and a mediatheque/information centre.




Cultural agreements

In 1993 the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Government of the Republic of France on Cooperation in the Fields of Culture, Education, Science and Technology was signed.

In 2011 the Agreement on the cinematographic co‑production between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Government of the French Republic was signed.

In January 2024 the fourth Strategic Partnership Action Plan was signed, which covers a number of areas of cooperation between the two countries over the next four years, deepening also a partnership in the fields of education, higher education, research and culture.

Cultural cooperation

In May and June 2012 the programme of the Cultural Embassy France took place in Maribor, European Capital of Culture 2012. It included the photo exhibition by Eric Emo offering a different view of artworks by Auguste Rodin and Antoine Bourdelle (prepared in collaboration with Musée Bourdelle and Musée Rodin). The artist in residence Fouad Bouchoucha (invited by Otto PROD art collective) created in Maribor his sound sculpture. A retrospective of French film took place at Kino Udarnik Maribor. A colloquium Deleuze and art hosted Arnaud Villani and Suzanne Hême de Lacotte. The programme was complemented by DJ acid Washed concert.
