Located in the vicinity of Ljubljana, the Municipality of Domžale covers a total area of 72.3 square kilometres and has a population of around 32,000 people in 182 settlements. A few regional festivals take place at Domžale. The Municipality co-operates with the Slovenia Ruti Association in Switzerland and with the cities of Euclid, USA and Koprivnica, Croatia.
The Department for Social Activities is responsible for public culture and cultural heritage preservation, social and health care, education and sports.
Quite a few festivals are organised in Domžale Municipality. From May through to June the Studenec Summer Festival takes place at on the stage of the Summer Theatre Škocjan, organised by Miran Jarc Cultural Society. The same period also sees the staging of the Dob the Gorenjska Comedy Actors Festival, organised by Jožef Virk Cultural Society. The Domžale EtnoRock Festival is organised on the last Friday of August by KUD Kontrabant.
The local branches of the Union of Cultural Societies of Slovenia (ZKDS) and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia (JSKD) facilitate the activities of about 26 cultural associations comprising around 880 members.
