Opened in June 1998, the War Museum in Logatec originated with the collection of museum objects gathered by private collector Janez J Švajncer. Because of the limited space only the most important items in the collection are presented. The showcases display objects relating to war and the military history of the Slovenes and Slovene territory. The collection presents weaponry and other artefacts from the earliest times through to the First and Second World Wars, the war for an independent Slovenia in 1991 and the development of the new Slovene army. There is also a collection of over 2,800 medals from all over the world.
