Črnomelj Castle

Črnomelj Castle is located on the northern side of the main town square in Črnomelj, close to the confluence of the Dobličica and Lahinja rivers. Although its origins date to the 13th century, it underwent frequent renovations over the centuries, acquiring its final form only in the 20th century. Today it serves as the seat of the Municipality of Črnomelj and hosts frequent cultural, social and official events, such as concerts, exhibitions, weddings, and more.

Renovation

Between 2021 and 2025, the castle underwent an extensive renovation, focusing first on the castle atrium and later on the ground floor. The renovated premises allow visitors to discover the castle in an interactive manner. For that purpose, the castle programme was expanded to include three new visitor experiences that allow the visitors to engage more deeply with the castle’s history, culture and culinary traditions. Visitors can even bake their own bread or create their own coat of arms. The Črnomelj Castle brand was further strengthened with a new visual identity.
