Forum Tomizza, founded in 2000, is an annual meeting of writers and other intellectuals in Koper (Slovenia), Umag (Croatia) and Trieste (Italy). Its goal is to connect guests and visitors from Slovenia, Italy and Croatia, regardless of the state borders, to encourage social and cultural dialogue between artists of different nationalities and to promote the idea of equality of all languages, cultures and nations. It also seeks to raise awareness of other marginalized communities. The festival is named after Fulvio Tomizza, a writer who promoted the ideal of multiculturalism and tolerance in his literary works.

Programme and organisers

The Forum usually takes place in May and offers book presentations, exhibitions, literary excursions, performances, and more. An important part of the Forum is also a symposium, always exploring a different festival theme. In addition, Forum Tomizza also organises an annual literary competition Lapis Histriae for the best short story. Selected stories are subsequently published in a printed anthology.

The Forum is organised by four organisations: the City Library Umag, Cultural Club Koper, the Italian Community “Santorio Santorio” and the Slovenian Club in Trieste.
