The Slovene branch of the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People (ASSITEJ) was established in 1965 to promote theatre for and by the young in the service of peace and the education of future generations. It fosters the development of such theatre at the highest artistic levels through recognition, improved knowledge and art worker exchange, and organises, promotes and participates in national and international events, including the translation and dissemination of plays and other texts. A world congress is held every three years and international festivals are organised periodically.
