Kontrada Festival was originally organised by KKM (Klub kanalske mladine) from 1996 to 2000. After a three-year hiatus the festival was revived in 2003 under the name 'Kontrada after Kontrada'. Festival events take place in the open air, with theatre performances and concerts being held in the square and also in the attic of the 'Gothic House' (film screenings with live music) as well as at the Cultural House in nearby Deskle. In 2003 the latter included a concert by eminent Macedonian singer Esma Redžepova, 'queen of gypsy music'. The 2003 Autumn sequel of the festival presented various music genres in the town square, and ranged from an oudo solo concert to choral singing and jazz. After a long pause, the Kontrada Festival was revived in 2022.
