LayerAIR Artist-In-Residency Programme takes place in Layer House in Kranj. Former residence of the Slovene painter Leopold Layer (1752–1828) in Kranj is today a vibrant cultural venue where exhibitions, festivals, workshops and concerts are taking place all year round. The residency programme invites residents from the fields of music and visual arts, more precisely textile art and design, collage, paper art, illustration or art photography. Residents are accommodated on the second floor of Layer House. The visual artists can work at the apartments, at experimental space In-Between Space, at the gallery spaces or – if specializing in textile art – in a studio with looms. Musicians can create in nearby Škrlovec Tower, a former city armory.
Application conditions
Residencies are available from October to the end of March. The call for residencies is open throughout the year. A public presentation of the work is not obligatory but can be organized in agreement with Carnica Institute. Collaborations with other artists, producers, venues and festivals can also be arranged upon request. The accommodation is not free of charge, however there are paid artist-in-residency programmes provided for the artists who participate at Carnica Institute festivals and projects.
