Carnica Institute for Culture and Tourism, established in 2010, is based in the town of Kranj, approximately 20 km northwest of Ljubljana. It is responsible for running and maintaining Layer House, the town's (and indeed the region's) premier venue for urban culture, and acts as producer and co-producer of many of the events at the venue; these include exhibitions, concerts, workshops and educational events.
In addition to the cultural programme, the institute also operates three apartments within the venue. While primarily intended for Layer's various artist-in-residence programmes, the apartments are also available for short-term tourist lets. Through the institute, Layer House itself is also available to rent for weddings and other private functions.
