Piran City Library was founded in 1956 and now serves 11 towns of the coastal region. Its collection comprises around 60,000 items in a department for adults and a department for young people. Its collection contains also literature and periodicals in Italian language for the Italian community living in Slovenia. Since 2009, it has a branch in Lucija. It regularly organises exhibitions, book presentations, fairy tale hours for children, book quizzes, and other events.
