The numerous camps in the woods of Kočevski Rog were once the commanding structures of the National Liberation Movement. The most important one was Baza 20, seat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Slovenia and the Executive Committee of the Liberation Front from April 1943. Of the numerous partisan structures and settlements in the Kočevski Rog today, only Baza 20, including 26 buildings, and the Jelendol and Zgornji Hrastnik field hospitals, are preserved as cultural monuments. In 1995 a permanent exhibition was opened at Camp Baza 20. Since 1998 another exhibition on partisan workshops, health care and the operation of some sections of the Slovene National Liberation Council in the Kočevski Rog have also been set up.
