What's the Matter?, exhibition within the Sustainable Design Week, featuring the works by Vadim Fiškin, represented by Gregor Podnar Gallery
Galerija Gregor Podnar started its work in Kranj as part of the DUM Association of Artists. In March 2004 gallery premises were opened at Savska 34 in Kranj with the inaugural exhibition Venture, featuring work by selected artists of the gallery. In August 2005 the gallery moved to Ljubljana, with Venture II. being featured in the new exhibition space at Kolodvorska 6 in Ljubljana, 100 metres from Ljubljana Railway Station.
In September 2007 Gregor Podnar associate the cluster of commercial international galleries in Galerienhaus Lindenstrasse 34-35 on the frontier between Berlin Mitte and Berlin Kreuzberg, featuring the work of Attila Csörgő. The new venue was officially opened in November 2007 with group exhibition Like to like I. and continued with Like to like II. Both shows were curated by the gallerist Podnar. So, by one work he presented all artists he is represening in the international commercial branch of art.
Afterwerds he continued withy solo exhibitions of the most recent creation of his artists, where his curatorial strategy stays recognizible and significant. Galerija Gregor Podnar in Berlin turned to be the base of Podnar activities. The space in Ljubljana is since than predominantly the project room mostly for presentations of solo art positions.
The gallery presents internationally well-known and established artists mostly from Eastern European centres, as well as young emerging artists from a wider context. These include Attila Csörgő, Vadim Fiškin, Alexander Gutke, Irwin, Magnus Larsson, Yuri Leiderman, Dan Perjovschi, Goran Petercol, Tobias Putrih, Nika Špan and Goran Trbuljak. Since 2008 he presents Ariel Schlesinger, young Israel artist, who lives and works in Berlin. Since 2009 he repesents another young polish artist Marzena Nowak as well.
Podnar works as well with following artists: Primož Bizjak,Tomaž Gregorič, Miha Knific, Bogoslav Kalaš, Antal Lakner, Kazimir Malevič, Andrei Monastyrsky, Tadej Pogačar, Christine Rebet, Guia Rigvava and Mladen Stropnik.
Since 2003 the gallery is frequently participating on international art fairs. Starting with Art Forum Berlin and Artissima Turin, Gregor Podnar attended Liste, The Young Art Fair in Basel, ViennaFair, Arte Fiera in Bologna. In 2006 Podnar participated on Art 37 Basel and since then his gallery entered the upper level of international art fairs like Frieze Art Fair London, Art Basel and Art Basel Miami Beach, where the gallery was in 2007 and 2008 part of the section Art Nova.
He was merchandising works of artist represented by him also on Art Brussels and In Paris on Fiac Art Fair. Last two years he is also one of the players of the abc, art berlin contemporary, art fair prepared by leading Berlin galleriests, trying to bring the new concept of art fairs in life, namely to mix together mechanisms of curated exhibiting and basic motives of commercial art branch.
Is since 2008 the truly commercial platform of the gallery activites and the base for attending international art fairs. So, there was presented mostly all by the gallery represented artists by solo exhibitions. In the calendar year it is possible to see approximately six exhibition of about one and half month duration. In the year 2009 were presented Alexander Gutke, Marzena Nowak, Attila Csörgő, Kazimir Malevich, Vadim Fiškin and Goran Petercol.
After the opening of the new venue in Berlin it turned slowly out this location to be an art project space. Since then there were presented Irwin, Vadim Fiškin, Kazimir Malevich, Tomaž Gregorič, Bogoslav Kalaš, Mladen Stropnik and italian artist Giovanni Morbin. This space is supported also by Slovenian Ministry of Culture.
Since 2005 Galerija Gregor Podnar is publishing monographies, books about specific projects and other kind of editions of their artists. Until 2009 have been issued the work of Nika Špan, Vadim Fiškin and Tobias Putrih.
