In 2009 the first and the only specialised architectural gallery in Slovenia just celebrated its anniversary with the exhibition dedicated to the last two decades. Since its establishment in 1989 over 300 exhibitions in Slovenia, 72 exhibitions abroad, and more than fifty lectures have been organised.

Arhitectural Gallery DESSA after twenty years remains the important platform for exchange of ideas and opinions - the leading architects of the association took this opportunity to remind of greater responsibility for the environmental issues and the society in general.

Background

In Spring 1989 Boris Podrecca, an internationally-renowned Slovene architect currently working in Vienna, donated his design services for a new gallery/office complex in the centre of Ljubljana. All items except chairs were made specially for DESSA. Chairs designed by Prof. Niko Kralj in 50s were donated by the manufacturer Stol Kamnik.

The DESSA facility in Židovska steza is composed of four rooms, each devoted to a different building material - stone for the gallery, wood for the library, plastic for the office and textile for the meeting room.

Exhibition space

Dimensions: 34m² (7.5m x 4.5m x 3.3m H) incorporating 13 linear metres of wall space; installation system: glass panels (11 glass panels 1m x 1.8m and 6 glass panels 0.33m x 1.8m); lighting: halogen lighting system; climate control: none; sales policy: sales not permitted; security: security system installed.
