The 303 square-metre Small Gallery is located in one of the corridors of the Cankarjev dom Culture and Congress Centre and presents an important space of reference for photographic artists. The exhibition programme encompasses primarily the work of Slovene photographers, from the most eminent to the youngest. The Emzin Magazine Photography of the Year Competition exhibition also takes place here and in the Foyer.

Programme

Likewise the Cankarjev dom Gallery (CD Gallery) also the exhibitions in the Small Gallery often correspond to multimedia events and festivals of the main Cankarjev dom programme. Within the Armenia Close Up Festival in spring 2010 the Small gallery featured the exhibition of Armenian photographer Ruben Mangasaryan, the editor-in-chief of the National Geographic Traveler Armenia. Further, as part of the Mexico in Ljubljana Festival (Summer 2009) Dušan Arzenšek, director and photography editor of Le Monde diplomatique in Slovenian, exhibited his photographic explorations of the Maya pyramids.

Although focused on Slovene authors, the space stages occasionally also the work of foreign photographers as in January 2010 when the works of the key figure of Croatian photography Petar Dabac were exhibited. Organised in association with the Lang Gallery from Samobor (Croatia) and curated by Želimir Koščević the presentation showed several series of Dabac including Letters to Maja and You Have Whitewashed in Vain.

In the recent years the Small Gallery have been cooperating with the Photon Gallery and its project Photonic Moments – Month of Photography presenting the latest trends in Slovenian photography.
