The Consortium of European Research Libraries was formed in 1992 by research libraries in many European countries. The organisation’s primary objective is to record all books printed in Europe during the hand-press period, c 1455 to 1830. It now contains more than 750,000 records, providing scholars with a resource for multilingual historical print culture in Europe on a scale previously unknown. The Hand Press Book database, a steadily growing collection covering items of European printing of the hand-press period, acquired 17,600 Slovene records in September 1998. These records, contributed by the [[National and University Library (NUK)]], reflect the history of the organisation, which began in 1774 as the library of the Ljubljana Lyceum. Languages represented are principally German, Latin, Slovene and the other Slavic languages. The notes, written in German, are often detailed. They contain information on contents, bibliographic citations and annotations about specific copies. Some records contain broad subject headings in German.
