The Mini Summer Festival, organised by the Mini Theatre, was established in 1999 with the aim of animating the streets, squares, atriums and castle of Ljubljana with high-quality puppetry performances and workshops for children. Each year the festival features an international selection of intriguing performances for children from international groups, and occasionally also puppet performances for adults (eg The Vampire by Stuffed Puppet Theatre from The Netherlands in 2007), featuring different puppet techniques, concepts and languages. In recent years the festival has featured puppet theatres from Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Chile, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany and Slovenia, with up to 12 groups being invited to each festival. Performances are staged either in the open air or at the Mini Theatre hall. Various creative workshops for children (visual arts, multimedia, puppetry and chivalry skills - the Pageants School for Young Pages and Dames) are conducted and exhibitions of puppets presented. The festival has gained high number of spectators of all ages and international reputation.
