Since 1998 it has taken the form of a five-day open-air book fair, involving more than 40 publishers which as a condition of participation are obliged to offer a minimum 10 per cent discount on their publications. Since 1997 Slovene Book Days has also taken place in other Slovene towns such as Maribor (organised jointly with [[MKC Maribor Youth Culture Centre|MKC Maribor]]), Celje, Koper, Velenje, Piran, Izola, Kranj and Krško. The book fairs are accompanied by daily literary readings, book launches, concerts and performances, discussions and a rich cultural entertainment programme.
