A Union of Slovene Public Libraries was closed in 2009 when a new organisation – Slovenian Public Libraries Association – was established to represent interests of Slovene public libraries in the field of policy, propose strategies and advise on management.

The association initiates common projects aimed at facilitating better co-operation and information exchange among the 58 public libraries that play an important role as local cultural and information centres.

A notable project is also a regional libraries portal Kamra.si, initiated in 2004.
