Sokolski dom Culture Centre reopened in 2009 as a completely renovated cultural centre in the medieval centre od Škofja Loka. In the centre there are two halls which can serve as a gallery, the large Crystal Hall for concerts, and the terrace garden for receptions. Its lively programme is focused on the top quality jazz, choir and chamber music concerts and personal exhibitions by Slovene artists.

The gallery programme in the main exhibition space kicked off with illustrations by Zvonko Čoh, followed by paintings by Jurij Kalan. The 20th death anniversary of Ive Šubic (1922-1989), a partisan, local painter, graphic and illustration artist was commemorated with the exhibition of rarely seen selected drawings.

Background

Sokolski dom was established in 1922 by the Sokol gymnastic club. Later on it has served as a provisional performing arts venue, enthusiastically maintained by the Lubnik Choir. Škofja Loka Municipality has renovated the centre with the funds obtained from EEA Norway Grants (Lively Old Town project) and European fund for regional development.
