Visual arts residency
The 2-months residency programme has been conceived by Alenka Gregorič, the artistic director of the City Art Gallery Ljubljana, and is dedicated to international artists. They are offered a stipend, a flat and a working space within the Tobačna 001 Cultural Centre premises. The residential programme is flexible as it allows the artists to decide whether to engage with the local community or concentrate on their own research and artistic work.
Gallery 001
The brand new gallery opened in March 2011 with an exhibition by Jan Fabre (on display also at the City Art Gallery Ljubljana), focused on his drawings and photographies of the performances by Helmut Newton and Robert Mapplethorpe.
The next exhibition accompanied the Delak Institute's ongoing project dealing with the Slovene historical avant-garde and its inclusion in the official national art history. The exhibition presented the original documents and publications from an Italian private collection and a reprint of the January 1929 issue of the German magazine Der Sturm, entirely dedicated to the "Junge Slowenische Kunst", the Slovene avant-garde artists such as (Ferdo Delak, Avgust Černigoj, Ivan Čargo, Anton Podbevšek, Srečko Kosovel, Marij Kogoj, Slavko Osterc, and Ivo Spinčič.
The Gallery 001, however, will be regularly showcasing also the work by the artists in the Tobačna 001 Cultural Centre residencies. The first one to present her site specific project was Katarina Zdjelar, artist form Serbia living in Rotterdam.
