Family adventure trail Jezična dogodivščina (Language Adventure), 2022.
Škrateljc – Institute for Culture, Education and Sport was founded in 2015 to encourage participation in culture, promote outdoor activities, and develop creative tourism initiatives. Although its work spans several fields, publishing is central to its activities, particularly children’s literature inspired by dwarfs (the word škrateljc means “little dwarf” in Slovene), fairies, giants, goblins, and other mythical beings. Many of the institute’s books are linked to family adventure trails across Slovenia, inviting children and their parents to explore nature and cultural heritage in an imaginative and engaging way.
The institute’s catalogue also includes several graphic novels, such as one dedicated to the life and legacy of the celebrated Slovenian poet Srečko Kosovel, and another inspired by the well-known historical novel Under the Free Sun by Fran Saleški Finžgar. In addition to its publishing programme and related activities, Škrateljc organises cultural events for schools, kindergartens, and other organisations.
