Foundations

Founded in Ljubljana in 2019, the Ulay Foundation Project Space is devoted to preserving and extending the legacy of Frank Uwe Laysiepen (1943–2020), known professionally as Ulay.

The Walk of Peace in the Soča Region Foundation was established in 2000 in order to manage, preserve and restore the remains of the infamous WWI Isonzo Front and was later delegated to set up and manage the Walk of Peace ("Pot miru") trail.

The Maks Fabiani Foundation was founded in 1999 with the aim to support and further the research on the work of the architect and urban planner Maks Fabiani (1865–1962).

The American Slovenian Education Foundation (ASEF) was established in 2014 with the objective of enhancing American and Slovenian education activities and uniting Slovenian scholars and educators globally.

The Knafelj Foundation was established in 1676 to financially help students (initially only male students of law, medicine, and philosophy) from Carniola with their studies in Vienna, then Central Europe's most important university city.

Velenje Literary Foundation (UVKF) was established in 2001 by the Municipality of Velenje on the initiative of the poet Ivo Stropnik to support book publishing, reading and literary culture in Velenje and elsewhere in Slovenia.

Established in 1992 as a successor of the Vladimir Bartol Fund, the Trubar Foundation (named after the Slovene protestant reformer Primož Trubar) is administered jointly by the Slovene Writers’ Association, the Slovene PEN Centre and the Centre for Slovene Literature with the aim of providing subsidies of up to 50 % of printing costs to encourage foreign publishers to publish translations of works by Slovene authors.

The Slovene Science Foundation is an independent and autonomous national institution that facilitates the pursuit, application, and promotion of new achievements and technologies in all branches of science.

The Prešeren Foundation is governed by a Board representing of various artistic disciplines whose members are nominated by the government and elected in Parliament.

Each year since 1947, on the 8 February national cultural holiday which commemorates the anniversary of the death of Slovene Romantic poet and liberal mind France Prešeren, the Prešeren Award (the so-called Grand Prešeren Award) is bestowed on one or two eminent Slovene artists.

Named after Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778), an eminent Italian graphic artist and architect, the Piranesi Foundation funds various activities in the fields of graphic art and architecture in an attempt to raise the quality of Slovenian architecture and spacial planning and thus affect positive change of the environment itself.

The Ministry of Education and Sport agreed to the establishment of the Karel Pečko Foundation in 1997.
