The International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People (ASSITEJ) was established in 1965 to promote theatre for and by the young in the service of peace and the education of future generations, to foster the development of such theatre at the highest artistic levels through recognition, improved knowledge and artworker exchange, and to organise, promote and participate in national and international events, including the translation and dissemination of plays and other texts. A world congress is held every three years and international festivals are organised periodically.
